Stara Cerkev (German: Mitterdorf) is a village to the northwest of Kočevje in southern Slovenia. It was a village inhabited largely by Gottschee Germans. In 1941 at the start of the Second World War most of its original population was expelled. The area is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region.[2]

The local parish church is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novo Mesto. It was built between 1853 and 1857 on the site of an earlier church.[3]
